Mexico's OBSESSION With Foreign Influencers (Who WORSHIP Mexico)
Просмотров 22 тыс.Год назад
Mexico has an OBSESSION with foreign influencers making positive videos about Mexico. It's strange because people from the UK (where I'm from) and the US don't care about foreigners reacting to their culture. But why are many Mexicans (not all) big fans of these foreign influencers? Believe it or not... Some answers to this question are traced back to the Spanish invasion and colonization of Me...

This is nothing new. I grew up in Mexico City and I experienced it when I went to school over there. You feel it more especially when you go to private schools, white mexicans are racist towards dark skin mexicans, I'm brown and sometimes they used to call me offensive names. I was more discriminated in my own country than here in the US. Also, if you are a white mexican and go to a nice restaurant or any shopping center, you'll get better treatment and better service than any other people. It's the truth.

Sadly, we still have lots of issues to overcome... i've been in the industry for a while now, and i feel terrible that this image is still perpetruated in the very core... but it seems like even us, as mexicans , dont want to change that... they often even reffer lighter skin people as beautiful and darker people (but not black, cause thats cool in advertising) but just like brown as ugly...

Was there 3 times. It is very easy to get there from the US. Cheap too. People are super friendly and the bus system is very cheap. Rides below $0.50 USD. You get a bus card from a bus station and can deposit maximum of 120.00 Mexican Pesos (approximately 6.00 USD). You use the card each time til is runs out. Then deposit money and get it back to 120 MEX D. There are good restaurants around the Basilica and walking to the Tepeyac the old church not difficult. Please make the pilgrimage with your family and make a visit to Our Lady. She will know you came to visit.

There is so much deep rooted self hatred and racism (not colorism like they try to claim to reduce the impact). Calling lighter skinned babies better looking than their brown counterparts, saying “mejorar la raza”, using indio or prieto as a put down, staying out of the sun to not get “dark”, saying “I used to be blanco when I was a kid” etc. Not to mention the fact that advertisements, telenovelas, and film portraying more white faces than back here at the states. In fact an average looking, thin, short white girl can easily land a modeling job over a statuesque brown skinned woman. I’m an American of 100% Mexican descent and when I visit Mexico, the racism towards indigenous people and self hatred is so unnerving. Lots of people say it doesn’t exist because its so engrained in the culture that its hard to see it unless you have a different perspective to draw from. If it were classism, it would mean that its accepted that all brown people are poor and all white people are rich; or it would indicate that brown wealthy people are treated better than white poor people. Which is not the case because we all know there is a preference for white people in Mexico and there is even a disgusting phrase that says “ aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda.“ alluding to indigenous people as apes and saying that no matter how they dress, they will still be apes.

Mexico has found a nice balance and acceptance regarding race, everybody gets along and they understand the favoritism that some "whiter" Mexicans get. A lot of what would be considered taboo subjects about race in the U.S or Britain are discussed openly in Mexico, I guess because we don't see ourselves as White vs Brown but as different shades of Mexicans as opposed to the clear racial divide in the U.S.

I have a genuine question, and I would like a local from CDMX to respond to me here, if possible. Who owns most of the rental properties in la Condesa and Roma? Who owns most businesses in these areas? Is it owned by local Mexican citizens or it is owned by international businesses or investment firms like Blackstone... Remember, property owners set prices. Also, how is local government reacting to protect its own population? Are there any measures like rent control, or subsidized rent for locals, or maybe extra tax on renting income to homeowners that charge too much? Maybe forcing developers of new properties to build a certain quota of guaranteed low rent units for the locals? CDMX is a wonderful city, I wish both locals and visitors could benefit from it...

Im half Mexican born in California & I never heard of “Malinchismo” Honestly, these are good points to consider. BUT I don’t think Mexico has an inferiority complex. Otherwise Mexico wouldn’t exist and it’d be New Spain still. The Mexican passport is strong, no visa needed to enter Switzerland either. Internationally aside from the US’s lukewarm relationship with Mexico , Mexico is well respected and its economy booming. Mexico is considered a developing country still. Malinche/Malintzin was around before Mexico was a country. However she’s controversial, as a native woman she’s revered as an intelligent woman, war strategist, and polyglot. Her being a traitor is a modern misinterpretation of history. The fallacy is applying modern views to a historic time. The Mexican collective conscious has pride & humility in their culture. They’re about living life with gusto & humanidad. The civil war/revolution plays a huge role into culture character building. They are passionate! So tying all that into how Mexican passion & the RUclips algorithm favors reactionary videos, its clear to see how foreigners get attention. Passion pushes the algorithm. Coining this term “malinchismo” Is an insult to my people. Alll this does is invent & infect problems. Its the outsiders that try to misinterpret my people & cause social damage. I’d urge any hispanic to take out self-damaging language.
